So I spent the week on Denver for work and did a fair bit of exploring while I was there. I’ll do a longer write up on my trip later once I go through photos but here is what the fuel gauge looks like in a rental Camry that you’ve put 140 miles on since you topped it off.
That doesn’t seem entirely accurate, but it meant I didn’t have to put more gas in it. Take that for not having any compact hatchbacks for me to rent!

Haha, I did the same on a rental Camry in Denver. I put 3 gallons in the car and came out another 3 gallons ahead since it still read full when I returned it.
I actually found it to be a perfectly fine car. I damn near almost understood it.

It was a little bigger than I usually like to take out here. It was definitely fine though. I had a Corolla in Montana once and it was perfect, same for a Yaris hatch in Denver a year ago. Light, decent ground clearance for the forest roads and good on gas.

In the past, if I was in Denver it was just to head over to Boulder, so I think it was a little less of a big deal to have such a large car. I’m astonished at how big sedans have become. My Lancer looks tiny compared to a modern mid-size car. It’s actually 2.3 inches shorter than a 2019 Corolla.
The Yaris sounds like a great used beater for that kind of place.

The last rental Camry I had in March was quite good. No complaints.

My fiancée has one, and sure it’s an appliance, but as appliances go, it’s a Samsung washer with a touch screen and phone app compared to everyone else’s 30 year old Maytag (yet somehow having the latter’s reliability and longevity). I don’t know how anyone could live with one of those cars and hate them.
I like driving too much to ever want to drive it, but as far as a boring car doing boring car things goes , it’s probably the most perfect car ever made.

Yeah it was bigger than I wanted, but it was fine. gas mileage was awesome though for something that big, got low 30s on like a 50/50 split of highway and gravel roads.
It just made me laugh that the gas gauge hung on full for so long. I easily burnt through 1/3 the tank but there the needle sat above full still.

It’s like the rental car return mi ra cle , that happens to me all the time. I fueled up in santa cruz then drove to san jose, about 35 miles the fuel gauge didn’t move!

It was kind of fun getting into a normal car for a short period knowing I would be giving it back. Most of the stuff I drive is sooooo much louder. The Miata is both slower than the Camry and like driving with you head in a washing machine. The Exocet is like the Miata had sex with a Ha yabusa . Even the Lancer Ralliart is next level over the Camry in terms of NVH (*it was bad even when I bought it in 2011 ). The Camry felt a lot like a refined version my old Pontiac Grand Prix - if you squint, you can “sporty” from here but it’s not that.
